韓国南西部で起きた大型旅客船「セウォル号」の沈没事故で、4人家族で乗船し、ただ一人救助された5歳の少女、クォン・ジヨンさんが、韓国で話題になっている。妹に救命胴衣を着せた後に行方不明になった6歳の兄、クォン・ハッキュさんと、両親はまだ見つかっていない。

■甲板で泣いていたところを高校生に助けられる
4月16日の事故直前、2人は両親と離れて船内で遊んでいた。船が傾いてきたので、兄は自分が着ていた救命胴衣を脱いで妹に着せてやり、「お父さんとお母さんを探してくる」と言ってその場を離れた。妹は兄が着せてくれた救命胴衣のおかげで、船に水が入ってきても浮かんでいられたという。（東亜日報）
一人残されたジヨンさんを救ったのは、高校2年生の男子生徒、パク・ホジン君だった。セウォル号が傾いて沈み始め、男子生徒が救命ボートに乗ろうとしたとき、ずぶ濡れになって甲板の上で一人取り残されて泣き叫んでいたジヨンさんを見つけ、抱きかかえて救命ボートに飛び乗った。
男子生徒は「小さな子がずぶ濡れになって泣いていたので、何も考えずに抱きかかえて救命ボートに飛び乗った」と話し、「島に着いてから救助隊員に女の子を託した」と話した。（京郷新聞）
■建物清掃で貯めた資金で第2の人生へ旅立つはずが…
クォンさん一家は、済州島の新しい家に引っ越すため、一家4人で一緒に船に乗っていた。夫妻は、済州島で農業をして、兄妹を育てようとしていた。
通信社のニュース1が知人の話として報じた記事によると、クォンさん夫妻は5〜6年前からビルの階段清掃の仕事をしていた。几帳面な仕事が評判となり、夫妻は個人事業者として独立した。建物の階段掃除を請け負って貯めた資金で、みかん栽培を始めようと済州島に少しずつ土地を買った。
事故前日の15日午前、教会に立ち寄って挨拶をした後、家族を連れてセウォル号に乗ったという。しかし、同じ船に乗ったジヨンさん以外の安否はまだ分かっていない。
ジヨンさんは救助された後、「お兄ちゃんが救命胴衣を着せてくれた」と話し、家族の安否を尋ねたという。
タイのツイッターユーザーが、幼い兄妹のイラストを描き、沈没事故の犠牲者を追悼している。
