【熊本地震】自衛隊の災害派遣が終了 熊本県知事「ずっと自衛隊に頼るわけにはいかない」

中谷元防衛相は5月30日、熊本県の蒲島郁夫知事の要請に基づき、熊本地震で救援活動に従事している自衛隊の撤収を命じた。これにより、約1ヶ月半にわたる災害派遣が終了する。共同通信などが報じた。

熊本県は、最初の揺れが発生した4月14日に自衛隊に災害派遣を要請。これを受けて、延べ約81万4000人の自衛隊員が、救助活動や行方不明者の捜索、給水や入浴の支援活動などに従事した。なお、大分県からは4月28日に撤収している。

撤収は、自治体などによる被災者支援の態勢が整ってきた状況を踏まえたもの。熊本県の蒲島知事は5月29日に記者会見で「ずっと自衛隊に頼るわけにはいかない。自分たちでやっていく時期に入った」と述べた

中谷防衛相は30日、これまでの活動を振り返り「被災者のニーズを踏まえ、できることはすべてできた」と記者団に話した。また、米海兵隊の垂直離着陸輸送機MV-22「オスプレイ」が輸送支援に参加したことについては「一番大変な時期に一番支援が困難な所に物資を運んだ。災害派遣において非常に有益だ」と述べた。その上で「自衛隊でもオスプレイを導入するので、十分に訓練を重ねて、安全に災害活動に対処できるよう整備していきたい」と話した
