JR北海道・石北本線の旧白滝駅が、3月26日のダイヤ改正で廃止される。終戦直後の1947年に開業、70年近く使われてきた無人駅だが、主な利用者は通学に使う女子高生1人だけ。その女子高生が卒業するのに合わせて、駅の使命を終えることになった。
旧白滝駅は鉄道ファンから「秘境駅」と呼ばれており、近くには数軒の民家があるだけ。上りは1日3本止まるが、下りは1本だけだった。
2015年7月22日の北海道新聞によると、同駅を利用する遠軽高校3年生の原田華奈さんは「旧白滝で乗り降りしている人は自分以外にほとんどみかけない」とし、「私が卒業したら廃止になるかもしれないと聞いていたが、実際になくなるのは寂しい」と残念がっていたという。
