レゴブロックと、ストリートアーティストのバンクシーの代表作を組み合わせたら、どうなるか? カナダ人写真家ジェフ・フリーセンが、その答えは「超やばい」ことを証明した。
一風変わったタイトルがつけられた自身の「Bricksy（ブリクシー）」シリーズで、この受賞歴のあるカナダ人写真家は、バンクシーによるグラフィティの代表作のいくつかを、レゴブロックにほんの少しのアイディアを加えて再現している。
「フリーセンは、世界的に有名なバンクシーの描画を巧みによみがえらせている。そして余分なものをかなり省いている」Mashable (マッシャブル) はこの巧妙なシリーズについてこう書いている。「オリジナル作品をより陽気な構成に置き換えることで、破壊的な意味を持つアートワークは、それ自身が冗談ぽい形へと覆る。フリーセンにとっては、笑いを引き出すことが全てなのだ」
こうした脚光を浴びることを嫌がるイギリス人であるバンクシーは、（本人のInstagramアカウントかどうかは定かではないが）フリーセンによる「Bricksy」の代表作が今週投稿している。作品は全て、模写の元であるバンクシーのアートワークと並べて掲載されている。
この1週間の間に、フリーセンもまた自身の作品である「Bricksy」の写真を、自分のInstagramページにいくつかアップロードしている。スクロールして画面の下の方を見てほしい。レゴブロックによるジオラマがそれぞれ、バンクシーのどの作品をモデルにしているか、お分かりになるだろうか。
フリーセンは写真シリーズ「50 States of LEGO (アメリカの50州)」の作者であり、9月に著書「United States of LEGO (レゴ合衆国)」を発売する予定である。
