ロンドン救急サービスは「50人以上の負傷者が、ロンドンの計5つの病院に運ばれた」と発表した。
炎上するグレンフェル・タワー
BBCによると、出火したのは公営住宅「ランカスター・ウェスト・エステート」のグレンフェル・タワーで、24階建てで120戸が入っている。同社のアンディ・ムーア記者によると、建物全体に火が回っているように見え、建物が崩壊する懸念が出ているという。
目撃者らからの情報として、建物内には大勢が閉じ込められ、助けを求めて叫んでいたという。上層階では懐中電灯か携帯電話のものと思われる光が見えた。閉じ込められた住民が窓際で助けを求め、子供を窓から出して抱える人もいたとBBCは報じた。
英紙ガーディアンによると、ロンドン市消防局長のダニー・コットン氏は、「私の29年間の消防士としてのキャリアで、この火災を見るのは初めてです。多くの死者が出ていますが、建物が大きく複雑なため、正確な人数はまだ把握できていません」と話した。
