［ワシントン １７日 ロイター］ - 米国は１７日、２０１２年にリビアのベンガジで発生した米領事館襲撃事件の首謀者として、アハマド・アブカタラ容疑者の身柄を拘束したことを明らかにした。
この襲撃事件では、駐リビア大使を含む米国人４人が殺害された。オバマ米大統領の声明によると、大統領承認を得て特殊部隊が１５日にリビアで作戦を実行した。
オバマ大統領は、訪問先のペンシルベニア州ピッツバーグで、同容疑者の身柄が米国に向けて移送中であることを明らかにした。
当時の政府の対応を共和党側は批判しており、オバマ大統領は中心人物とされる容疑者の身柄拘束で、一定の成果を上げたとみられる。
