史上最年少のノーベル賞受賞者、マララ・ユスフザイさんが12月15日、アメリカ大統領選に共和党から出馬しているドナルド・トランプ氏らに、現実に目覚めることを提案した。トランプ氏はパリ同時多発テロを受け、イスラム教徒のアメリカ入国禁止を主張している。これについてマララさんは次のように述べた。

「政治家たちが何を発言しようと、メディアが何を発言しようと、とても慎重であることが大切です。テロリズムを止めるのが目的なら、イスラム教徒の全てを批判しようとしてはいけません。なぜなら、それではテロリズムを止めることはできないからです。より多くのテロリストを急進的にしてしまうでしょう」

マララさんはこれまで、トランプ氏の発言について、「悲劇的」で「憎しみに満ち、他者に対して差別的なイデオロギーに満ちている」と表現していた

マララさんはパキスタンで女性が教育を受ける権利を訴え、2012年10月9日にイスラム組織タリバンから銃撃された。命を狙われたにもかかわらず、マララさんはこの提唱を継続。差別ではなく教育が、テロを止める鍵だとマララさんは主張してきた。

パキスタンの学校をタリバンが襲撃し、134人の子供たちが犠牲になった日から1周年を記するイギリスの式典で、マララさんは次のように語った

「テロリズムを終わらせたいのなら、質の高い教育が必要です。そうすればテロリズムの精神構造や憎しみを生む考え方をなくすことができます」
