マンデラ元大統領が退院、自宅で集中治療 容体は依然「重篤」

南アフリカ大統領府は1日、6月から入院が続いていたネルソン・マンデラ元大統領(95)が同日、退院したと発表した。ただ、マンデラ氏の容体は依然として重篤で時々不安定になることがあり、最大都市ヨハネスブルクの自宅で入院時と同レベルの集中治療を続けるという。

大統領府は声明で「マンデラ氏の容体は引き続き危険で時折不安定な状態となる」としつつ、「自宅が改修され、同様の集中治療を継続できると医師団が判断した」としている

この発表のあと、最大の都市・ヨハネスブルクにあるマンデラ氏の自宅には、警察が厳重な警備を行うなか、マンデラ氏を乗せたとみられる救急車などが到着し、周辺はものものしい雰囲気に包まれた

南アフリカでアパルトヘイト=人種隔離政策の撤廃運動を率い、人種間の和解に努めたマンデラ氏は、2010年に南アで開催されたサッカー・ワールドカップ(W杯)の閉会式に姿を見せて以降、公の場には現れていない。肺の感染症が再発したことし6月に首都プレトリアの病院に入院し、治療を続けてきた。7月には病院で95歳の誕生日を迎えている。

南ア通信によると、孫のマンドラ氏は「お祝いの日だ」と述べ、退院を喜んだ。マンデラ氏の自宅には報道陣が集まり、付近にいた白人女性のマリー・ヒューズさん(64)は「ほっとしたが、これで大丈夫だというわけでもない。自宅でゆっくり休んでほしい」と話した
