韓国・保健福祉部の中央MERS管理対策本部は6月8日、MERS（中東呼吸器症候群）の感染者が計87人、死者は6人になったと発表した。
調査報道系ニュースサイト「ニュースタパ」のグラフによると、韓国のMERS感染者数はアラブ首長国連邦（UAE）を抜き、1000人以上の感染者を出しているサウジアラビアに次いで、世界2位になった。
発表によると、この日に追加発表された感染者23人はいずれも病院内での3次感染。2次感染で最大の感染者を出した平沢聖母病院からの追加はなかった。感染の可能性があるとして当局から隔離措置を受けているのは、8日現在で計2508人。

病院名公表、政府の対応は後手に
韓国政府は6月7日、感染者が経由したことが確認された病院をすべて公表した。8日の追加発表も合わせると29病院にのぼる。
感染者が経由した病院名の公表を求める声は、韓国の世論調査で8割以上にのぼっていたが、保健福祉部は「非公開が原則。公表する根拠がない」として、病院名の公表を拒んできた。国会が5月後半、与野党による国会法改正案の合意や、次期首相候補者への聴問会などに追われ、、国会の腰も重かった。6月5日に政府は、感染者数の多い一部病院名を発表し、朴槿恵大統領が、感染者を治療する国立中央医療院を訪問した。最初の感染者が出てから16日後のことだった。
ネット上では、その他の病院名について、虚実の混じった情報が乱れ飛んだ。ソウル市長など一部の自治体首長が独自に「感染が疑われる人の居住地」などを発表する例が相次いだ。「ニュースタパ」が5日に独自に24病院名を公表し、政府の対応もそれらに押される形となった。
