韓国で、重い肺炎などを引き起こす中東呼吸器症候群（MERS＝マーズ）コロナウイルスに感染した患者が増えている問題で、韓国保健福祉省は6月2日、感染した男女2人が1日に死亡したと発表した。また、また、三次感染者2人も初めて確認され、これまでに感染者が25人になったことも明らかにした。時事ドットコムなどが報じた。
死亡したのは５７歳の女性と７１歳の男性。いずれも、サウジアラビアなどを訪問後に帰国して最初に感染した男性（６８）と接触していた。女性は死亡後に感染が確認された。
また、三次感染した患者２人は、最初に感染した男性から二次感染した男性（４０）と同じ病室に入院していた。保健福祉省などの対策チームは「医療機関内での感染だ。（感染が）地域社会に広がっていると見るのは難しい」と述べ、影響は限定的と強調している。

朴槿恵大統領は1日、「伝播力に対する判断や接触者の確認、予防の広報活動など、初動対応が不十分だった」と述べ、政府を挙げて対策を徹底するよう指示した。しかし、感染者の隔離を迅速に行わなかった当局の対応を疑問視する声が上がっている。
MERSコロナウイルスは、2012年に発見された。コトバンクによると、空気感染はなく、濃厚接触感染であるため、家族や病院内感染はありうるが、重症急性呼吸器症候群（SARS＝サーズ）の原因であるSARSコロナウイルスに比べると感染力は低いという。
