アメリカのミズーリ州ファーガソンで、8月9日、丸腰だった18歳の黒人男性マイケル・ブラウンさんを警察官が射殺。これに抗議するデモ隊と、警察との衝突が続いている。

アメリカのミズーリ州ファーガソンで、8月9日、丸腰だった18歳の黒人男性マイケル・ブラウンさんを警察官が射殺。これに抗議するデモ隊と、警察との衝突が続いている。

発砲に至った経緯について、警察側は、ブラウンさんが警官に襲いかかり、銃を奪おうとしたと説明。一方で、事件を目撃した女性は、両手を挙げたブラウンさんを警察官が撃ち続けた、と証言しているほか、無抵抗のブラウンさんに警官が暴行したと複数から目撃されており、警察側が人種差別的な対応をしたのでは、との観測が強い。

デモ隊は一部が暴徒化し、略奪も発生。警察が発砲した警官の名前を明かさないことを発表したこともあり、激化している。地元警察隊は催涙弾などで鎮圧を図っているという。

オバマ大統領は事態を受け、連邦捜査局(FBI)に発砲が適切に行われたものか捜査するよう指示した。

「警察への暴力は許されない。警察が、抗議する人を強制的に拘置所に入れたりすべきではない」

オバマ大統領は、透明性のある捜査が必要だとして、FBI(連邦捜査局)と司法省が地元警察と連携して捜査していると述べました。

米ウェブメディア「Vox」では、ファーガソンの住人の63%が黒人だが、2013年の逮捕者のうち93%が黒人というデータを示し、事件の背景にマイノリティに対する警察権力の差別があったと指摘する

またTwitter社は「Ferguson」と名づけたサイトを開設し、関連する写真の投稿を集めて表示している。
