5月2日に行われるボクシングの「世紀の一戦」フロイド・メイウェザー対マニー・パッキャオ戦を前に、元世界ヘビー級王者マイク・タイソンは格闘技専門ニュースサイト「Undisputed Champion Network」の取材で「俺はモハメド・アリよりも偉大だ」と豪語するメイウェザーについて尋ねられた。タイソンはこの質問から逃げなかった。

「すごい妄想だな」とタイソンは答えた。「いいか、メイウェザーがアリと肩を並べるくらい偉大な領域に近づいているとしたら、奴は自分の子供を学校に連れていけるはずだ。でも奴は自分で子供を学校に連れていけてないじゃないか。それに、メイウェザーは自分が偉大だと言っているって？ 偉大さっていうのはな、自分自身を人から守ることじゃないんだ。人から受け入れられるってことなんだ。奴は一人で子供を学校に連れていけないだろ〔訳注・メイウェザーは妻や子供への家庭内暴力でたびたび有罪判決を受け、2012年には刑務所に収監されている〕」

そして、タイソンはこんな捨て台詞を吐いた。

「奴はチンケで、臆病な男だ。とーっても小さな、臆病な男なんだ」

もちろん、アリも早い段階で口出ししている。

「忘れるなよ、俺が一番偉大なんだ！」
