中南米のホンジュラスで「ミス・ホンジュラス」に選ばれたマリア・ホセ・アルバラドさん（19）が行方不明になっていた事件で、11月19日、マリアさんが射殺され、姉とともに遺体で発見された。AP通信などが報じた。地元警察は姉の交際相手の男が姉妹を殺害したとみて身柄を拘束した。

4月に2014年のミス・ワールドのホンジュラス代表に選ばれたマリアさんは13日、姉ソフィア・トリニダード・アルバラドさん（23）とともに、姉の交際相手の誕生日パーティーに参加した後、行方がわからなくなっていた。
BBCによると、地元警察の発表ではパーティで姉が他の男と一緒に踊っていたことに交際相手の男が嫉妬し、殺害したという。姉妹の遺体は現場にいた別の男と共に西部のカブロタレスにあるアグアグア川の近くに埋められたとしている。
アルバラドさんは12月にロンドンで開催される「ミス・ワールド」にホンジュラス代表として出場予定だった。
ホンジュラスは世界各国の中で最も国内での殺人率が高い国で、国連薬物犯罪事務所が調査した2012年の統計によると、10万人に90.4人の割合で殺害されている。
