ミャンマー民主化の行方を占う歴史的な総選挙は11月8日に投票され、開票作業が続いている。時事ドットコムによると、最初の中間開票結果は9日午前9時（日本時間午前11時半）に発表される予定。
ロイター通信は、民主化運動のリーダー、アウンサンスーチー氏が率いる野党・国民民主連盟（NLD）の得票率が最大となる見通しを伝えている。
ロイター通信の別の記事によると、旧首都のヤンゴンでは8日、NLDの事務所前の道路に大勢の支持者らが詰めかけ、赤い旗を振って予想される勝利を祝った。
