カトマンズのダルバール広場にあった建物の瓦礫は、4月25日の地震の数カ月後に片付けられた。昨年2度の地震に見舞われたネパールはゆっくりと再建している。
2015年4月25日、マグニチュード7.8の地震がネパールを襲った。エベレスト近くで雪崩が発生して、近隣国のインドとチベットとバングラディシュに影響を与えた。さらに3週間経たないうちに余震が近隣地域を襲って、最初の地震で不安定な状態になった丘の上の建物やぐらついた瓦礫を崩壊させた。
2度の地震の結果、約9000人が亡くなり、50万戸以上の家屋が崩壊した。地震が起きやすいネパールにとって、この災害は史上最悪のものとなった。
1年が経ち、ネパールは復興への歩みを進めている。地震発生まもなく撮影された写真と2016年2月に撮影された同じ場所の写真を比べると、復興が少しずつ進んでいることがわかる。
傾いて不安定になった建物が取り壊されている。瓦礫もほとんど撤去され、荒れていた道も、再び使われ始めた。
数カ月前にカトマンズで人々が犠牲者たちを運び出していたが、同じ場所で露天商人が花を売っている。
ネパールの復興への動きは遅く、犠牲者たちは充分な支援を受けていない。悲劇から1年が経ったが、住む場所を失った家族のうち家を建て直すことができたのは5%に満たないとカトマンズ・ポストが4月25日に言及した。約300万人が今でも防水シートを屋根にした一時避難所に住んでいる。モンスーンが多い6月が近づくが、この一時避難所では住民を風と雨から守れそうにない。
2015年春、世界中の援助者たちが40億ドル（約4250億円）の支援を約束したが、AP通信によればネパール政府が受け取ったのは12億8000万ドル（約1360億円）だ。ネパールは数カ月かけて国家再建庁を設立した。ネパールの日刊紙ザ・ヒマラヤン・タイムズによると、国家再建庁が行ったのは、ただ国内で最も被害を受けた地域に住む人の中で家屋再建用の助成金を受け取る人のリストをつくっただけだ。
4月25日、ネパールの首相カドガ・プラサード・シャルマは国内の復興プロセスを早めることを約束した。そしてカトマンズ内外の主要な世界遺産の再建を開始することを発表した。

地震から1年後、カトマンズの広場で避難所として提供された仮設テントがなくなった。
