錦織圭、日本男子初のトップ10入り テニス世界ランキング9位の快挙

5月12日発表された男子テニスの世界ランキングで、錦織圭(日清食品)が12位から9位に浮上し、日本男子初のトップ10入りを果たした。

5月12日発表された男子テニスの世界ランキングで、錦織圭(日清食品)が12位から9位に浮上し、日本男子初のトップ10入りを果たした。11日に終了したマドリード・オープンで準優勝したことで、自身が持っていた日本男子最高記録の11位を塗り替えた。時事ドットコムによると、アジア圏の男子選手がトップ10入りしたのは10年ぶりだという。

1973年に導入された現行のランキング制度で、日本男子選手がシングルスでトップ10入りしたのは初めて。アジア圏の男子選手が10位以内に入ったのは、2004年3月にパラドーン・スリチャパン(タイ)が10位になって以来で、10年ぶりの快挙。

添田豪(GODAITC)は一つ上がって122位。伊藤竜馬(北日本物産)は143位から127位に上昇している。

日本男子の世界ランキングは、長らく1992年に松岡修造が記録した46位が最高だった。2011年10月に錦織が30位にランクアップして記録を塗り替え、その後も更新していた。
