「銃を持っていれば助かったのに」――サウスカロライナ州チャールストンにあるアフリカ系アメリカ人が通う教会で銃が乱射され、男女9人が死亡した事件について、全米ライフル協会(NRA)のチャールズ・L・コットン氏がインターネット上に書き込み、「炎上」した。

この事件の犠牲者の一人である、サウスカロライナ州議員で聖職者のクレメンタ・C・ピンクニー氏への批判として書き込まれた。

「もし彼(ピンクニー氏)が銃所持を認めていたら、教会にいた8人は生きていただろうに。彼の政治的なスタンスのせいで、無実の人が亡くなった」。

書き込みは現在削除されており、事件とこの書き込みについて、NRAはコメントをしていない。

ピンクニー氏は41歳。2010年から事件のあった教会で牧師を務めるかたわら、サウスカロライナ州議員として、銃規制法の整備などに奔走していた。
