ニューヨーク証券取引所で7月8日、4時間近く取引ができなくなるシステム障害が発生した。ロイターによると、アメリカ東部時間午前11時半（日本時間9日午前0時半）ごろに、技術的な障害の発生に伴いすべての銘柄の取引が停止。その後3時間以上にわたって取引停止の状態が続いたが、同午後3時10分（同午前4時10分）ごろに、取引が再開したという。
産経ニュースによると、ユナイテッド航空も同日、1時間以上にわたって全米で運航を停止、数百便に遅れが生じたほか、ウォールストリート・ジャーナルのウェブサイトも一時、システム障害で閲覧ができなくなった。ハフポストUS版によると、トップページで、以下のようなエラーメッセージが表示されていた。
これらのトラブルについて、ホワイトハウスのアーネスト報道官は8日の記者会見で「現時点ではいずれについても悪意のある行為だという証拠はない。関連もない」と述べ、サイバー攻撃ではないという見方を示している。
