山のふもとの長野県木曽町では、噴火した同時刻の午前11時52分、町職員らが黙祷をささげた。捜索隊のヘリポートとなっている長野県王滝村のグラウンドでも消防隊員約60人が黙祷をささげ、犠牲者の冥福を祈った

自衛隊や警察、消防の捜索隊は雨のため2日間にわたり中止となっていた山頂付近の捜索活動を、約930人態勢で再開し、心肺停止状態の4人を発見した。3日時点で安否不明となっているのは少なくとも16人。毎日新聞などが報じた。

4日に投入された捜索隊は、長野側の王滝登山口などから入った地上部隊と、ヘリコプターで山頂付近に降り立った計931人態勢。岐阜県警の12人も加わっている。これまでに犠牲者の多くが見つかったエリアを重点に、範囲を広げて捜索。火山灰の中を捜すため、金属探知機や地雷探知機を使っている。しかし、登山道に積もった火山灰が前日の雨でぬかるみ、地上部隊が頂上付近に到着するまで予想以上に時間がかかった。

6日には大型で非常に強い台風18号の影響で、大雨になる恐れもある。降り積もった火山灰で土石流が起こる可能性もあり、ふもとの王滝村では滝越地区10世帯14人に向けた避難所の準備を始めた

■登山客も減少 地元の観光業は……

噴火以前は週末になるとたくさんの登山客が訪れていたが、この日は人の姿がほとんど見られなかったという。時事ドットコムが次のように報じている。

JR木曽福島駅前で土産物店を営む川合克巳さん(47)によると、これまでは週末の朝になると100人近い登山客がバス停に列をつくったが、この日はほとんど姿がみられず、閑散としていた。川合さんは、犠牲者の多さに「(御嶽山が)入りやすくて人気だった裏返しでもある。週末の昼でタイミングも悪かった」と悲しそうな表情を浮かべた。

御嶽山のふもとの長野県木曽町の観光業は7月〜11月が年間収益の7割を占めている。噴火直後の9月末に同町の観光協会が会員業者にアンケートをした結果、11月末までの見通しについて12の業者が「死活問題」として大きな危機感を抱いていたという。

宿泊業では、既に予約客の2〜5割がキャンセルしたという。会員らは「町全体が火山灰に覆われていると思い込まれている」などとして、協会に風評対策を要望した。

噴火に伴う入山規制の範囲は限定的なため、御嶽山のロープウエー以外の主な観光施設は営業できる状態だが、3日に開かれた協会の役員会では「捜索活動が続く中、当面はPRせず、収束を待つ」と決めた。
