フロリダ州オーランドのナイトクラブ「パルス」で6月12日、49人が死亡、53人が負傷した銃乱射事件で、射殺されたオマル・マティーン容疑者(当時29)が交渉人の警官に「この襲撃は、イラクとシリアのISを狙ったアメリカの爆撃に対する抗議だ」と話していたことが、容疑者と交渉人の通話記録から明らかになった。

「お前たちはアメリカ政府に爆撃を止めるように言わなくてはならない。あまりに多くの子供を殺している。あまりに多くの女性を殺している。わかるか」と、マティーン容疑者は銃乱射の最中、交渉人の警官に電話で話していた。その数時間後、マティーン容疑者は警官との銃撃戦で死亡した。

オーランドの警察は9月23日に、銃撃犯と交渉人の警官の間で交わされた、3回にわたる電話のやりとりの記録を公開した。2回目の電話中、マティーン容疑者は「ナイトクラブの襲撃は、数週間前にイラクでISの最高司令官を殺害したアメリカの爆撃が引き金になった」と話した。

ロサンゼルス・タイムズによると、ワヒブ司令官は暴力的な動画をネットに掲載することで有名だった。たとえばある動画では、ワヒブ司令官が、シーア派のイスラム教徒だという理由で、シリアのトラック運転手3人を殺害している。

交渉人の警官との会話の中で、マティーン容疑者は、シリアとイラクで民間人を殺害したアメリカの空爆について、繰り返し不満を述べていた。「そこで私の同胞たちが殺されているのに、自分は何をするべきだろうか」

交渉人がマティーン容疑者に身分を明かすよう求めたとき、彼は「私の名は、イスラム戦士だ。私をムジャヒディーン(ジハードを遂行する者)と呼べ。神の戦士と呼べ」と答えた。マティーン容疑者は、ISへの忠誠を誓っていると述べ、2013年4月15日に3人が死亡、200人以上が負傷したボストン・マラソン爆弾テロ事件を実行した同士の1人を褒め称えた。

当局はのちに、ISと銃乱射事件との間に直接の関連はなかったと結論づけた

交渉人は懸命にマティーン容疑者から彼の身元、武器、被害の程度について、情報を引き出そうとした。

マティーン容疑者は、交渉人の質問の多くをはぐらかした。ある時、彼はクラブの駐車場に「一区画の街をまるごと破壊できる」爆弾を置いたと主張したが、爆弾探知犬では見つけられなかった。

襲撃事件はイスラム教の断食月ラマダン中に起こった。マティーン容疑者は交渉人に、「私は宗教的伝統を忠実に守っている」と話した。

「私は今日、一日中断食した。一日中断食して、祈っていた」と、彼は言った。

通話記録は、これまでに一部がオーランド警察が発表していたが、完全な会話記録は公開されていなかった。

当局は緊急通報(911番)した目撃者と、騒動への対応にあたる消防署員の音声記録を公開している。
