パキスタン首都でデモ隊と警官隊が衝突、3人死亡700人負傷

パキスタンの首都イスラマバードの中心部で8月30日夜、反政府デモ隊と警官隊が衝突し、地元メディアによると少なくとも3人が死亡、700人以上が負傷した。

パキスタンの首都イスラマバードで8月30日夜、シャリフ首相の退陣を求めて座り込みを続けていた数万人のデモ隊が、首相公邸へ向けて行進を始め、警官隊と大規模な衝突に発展した。地元メディアによると、ゴム弾や催涙弾で少なくともデモ参加者3人が死亡、700人以上が負傷した。このまま混乱が続けば、パキスタンの政治に大きな影響力を持つ軍部が介入に踏み切る可能性も指摘されている。

デモは、第2野党「正義運動(PTI)」の党首で元人気クリケット選手のイムラン・カーン氏と、イスラム法学者カドリ氏が主催。8月14日に東部ラホールからイスラマバードまで行進し、20日から国会前広場を占拠していた

デモ隊は2013年5月の総選挙で不正があったとして、シャリフ首相の退陣と再選挙などを求めている。NHKニュースなどが報じた。

30日の夜には、デモ隊が首相公邸に近づこうとしたところ、治安部隊が催涙弾やゴム弾を使って排除に乗り出したため、デモ隊と激しい衝突になり、衝突は現在も断続的に続いています。

事態が緊迫するなか、パキスタンの軍部は、31日夜、幹部を集めた緊急の会議を招集しました。会議後に発表された声明では、「暴力的手段に頼るのではなく、速やかに政治的な解決を図るべきだと強く求める」として、シャリフ政権に対し、デモ隊との対話による解決を迫っています。

政府とデモ隊側は、解決策を模索して何度か協議を行ったが、辞任を拒否するシャリフ氏にカーン氏らが態度を硬化させ、デモ隊を首相公邸に向かわせた。警官隊は催涙弾やゴム弾で対抗、デモ隊はカーン氏らに批判的なテレビ局の事務所や放送車を襲撃するなど対立が深まっている。

シャリフ氏は自宅がある東部ラホールにおり無事で、デモ隊の行動を民主主義の流れに逆らうものだと批判した。

デモは30日から南部カラチや東部ラホールなどでも始まっており、混乱は全国に広がりつつある。

治安維持に加わっている軍はデモの動きを静観し、仲裁の意思を示している。ただ、対テロ戦やインド、アフガニスタンをめぐる政策で軍との溝が深まっているシャリフ政権は、デモ隊の背後に軍がいるとの疑念を強めている

政権側は今後もデモ隊との交渉を続けるとしているが、首相退陣は拒否する構えだ。デモ隊側にも退陣要求を取り下げる動きはなく、事態収拾の見通しは立っていない
