9月11日(現地時間)に行われたリオ・パラリンピック男子1500メートル(T13視覚障害)で、アブデラティフ・バカ選手が世界記録の3分48秒29で優勝した。

この記録は、リオ・オリンピック男子1500メートルの金メダル記録3分50秒上回る。つまり、バカ選手がもし8月に同じ競技場で行われたリオ・オリンピックに出ていたら、金メダルに輝いたことになる。

バカ選手だけではない。2位のタミル・デミッセ選手は3分48秒49 、3位のヘンリー・カーワは3分49秒59選手、4位のフォーダ・バカ選手(アブデラティフの弟)は3分49秒84でゴールし、4人がリオ・オリンピック金メダル記録を上回った。

試合後のインタビューでバカ選手は「金メダルをとるのは、簡単ではありません。約2年間、休まずに練習していますが、練習は本当に大変です」と答えた。
