8月19日は「世界人道デー」 制定のきっかけは10年前のあの大事件

8月19日は国連が定めた「世界人道デー」。世界各地で起こった紛争や自然災害の現場で緊急人道支援に関わり、命を落とした人々のことに思いをはせ、我々にも出来ることを考える日だ。

潘基文(パン・ギムン)国連事務総長はYouTubeで、世界に向けてメッセージを発信している。

「地球規模の課題に直面している今、平和、正義、尊厳、発展という人類共通の目標のために、人々も国々も共に協力しなければならない。それこそが人道精神であり、国連に求められた人道上の責務であると思う」

国連人道問題調整事務所(OCHA)は、2013年の世界共通キャンペーンとして以下のような問いかけを出した。

「世界がもっと必要としているのは_____」

(The World Needs More _____)。

この_____部分に入るべき言葉を特設ページで募集している。民間企業や著名人が「_____」にふさわしい言葉をスポンサーし、ウェブサイトやプロモーションビデオなどでこれを広め、世界中でソーシャルメディアを通じた言葉の広まりに応じて、緊急人道支援のための国連プールファンドに資金拠出をするしくみ。

潘事務総長は「teamwork」という言葉を選んだ。あなたはどんな言葉がふさわしいと思うだろうか？

■世界人道デーとは

2003年8月19日、イラクのバグダッドで人道支援等を担っていた国連事務所が攻撃され、当時国連事務総長イラク特別代表を務めていたセルジオ・ビエイラ・デメロ氏をはじめ、22名のスタッフが尊いいのちを失いました。国連はこの日を「世界人道デー（World Humanitarian Day）」と定め、世界各地で起きている紛争や自然災害などの現場で緊急人道支援に携わる人々に思いを寄せるための日としました。（ocha filmsの説明より）
