アマル・クルーニー氏は、ウィキリークスのジュリアン・アサンジ氏、ウクライナのユリア・ティモシェンコ元首相、それにカンボジアを顧客に持つ、著名な人権派弁護士だ。国連の委員会に指名されて、コロンビア・ロースクールやハーグ国際アカデミーなど、名だたる学校や機関で教えた経験をもつ。

しかしAP通信は、この世界的に名を知られた弁護士についてTwitterで触れた際、彼女を弁護士ではなく、俳優ジョージ・クルーニーの妻と紹介した

俳優の妻アマル・クルーニー氏は、エジプトで告訴されたアルジャジーラのジャーナリストの代理人を務めている。


コメントはソーシャルメディア上で怒りを引き起こし、多くの人たちが「性差別」だとAPを非難した。

俳優の妻ではなく、人権派弁護士です。修正して下さい!!! 今は21世紀だということを知らないのでしょうか。


名字がクルーニーだから彼女の肩書きは「俳優の妻」になるのでしょうか。「人権派弁護士」を使うべき。


APは、夫によって女性の価値が決められた1950年代から抜け出せていない。


これ本気? 「人権派弁護士」でしょ。「俳優の妻」は肩書きじゃない。


その後AP通信は、クルーニー氏に関するツイッターを編集や削除もしなかったものの、その後のツイートでは彼女を「人権派弁護士」とよんでいる。

人権派弁護士アマル・クルーニーは、アルジャジーラのジャーナリストに下された実刑を批判している。


クルーニー氏は、エジプト系カナダ人のジャーナリスト、ムハメド・ファハミ氏の弁護人を務めている

ファハミ氏は、8月29日に懲役3年の有罪判決を受けた3人のアルジャジーラのジャーナリストの1人だ。3人は2013年にエジプトで軍事クーデターが起こった後、「エジプトは内戦状態」と報じて拘束された

弁護人であるクルーニー氏は、エジプトのアブドルファッターフ・アッ=シーシー大統領に恩赦を要求している。

クルーニー氏は判決の後、次のように述べている。「今日の判決で、エジプトはとても危険なメッセージを送ることになります。ジャーナリストが真実を述べ、ニュースを報道するという職務を果たすだけで刑務所に入れられるというメッセージ、そしてエジプトには、法廷を政治的な弾圧や宣伝工作の道具とすることを許すような裁判官がいるというメッセージです」
