アメリカ・フロリダ州オーランドで6月12日、同性愛者が多く集まるナイトクラブ「Pulse(パルス)」で49人が死亡した銃乱射事件について、容疑者の父親は13日朝、「息子が客たちを殺害したのは間違いだった。同性愛者たちは神が罰するからだ」と語った。ワシントン・ポストが報じた。

ワシントン・ポストによると、マディーン氏は銃乱射事件によって49人が死亡し、多数の負傷者が出たことに対し「悲しく思う」と述べた。マディーン氏は報道陣に対し、息子が最近、2人の男性がキスしているのをみて激高していたことから、宗教上の理由がこの事件の動機ではないと語っていた。しかし、動画の中では息子が大量殺人を犯した理由に心当たりはない、と語っている。

セディーク・マディーン氏、通称ミール・マディーンは、以前のについても物議を醸す発言をしている。ガーディアン紙によると、Facebookに最近投稿された動画の中でマディーン氏はアフガニスタン大統領を演じ、現政府を崩壊させんとする「アフガニスタンの革命」について語っているという。「アフガニスタン臨時政府」とタイトルのついたFacebookページ上では、マディーン氏は軍服姿でダリ語を話しており、アフガニスタンのアシュラフ・ガニ大統領をはじめとする4、5人の政治家たちを逮捕するよう命じている。

ロイターによると、マディーン氏は衛星通信のテレビ番組の放映権を購入し、カリフォルニア州カノガ・パークで撮影した番組の司会を務めていたという。マディーン氏は動画で「パキスタンとアフガン大統領アシュラフ・ガニを毒づく過激派政治評論家」を自称し、大々的に反パキスタンの見解を表明しているという。

ワシントン・ポストによると、マディーン氏の番組で流れたあるYouTubeの動画では、マディーン氏はアフガン・タリバンを称え、民族境界問題に関してパキスタン政府を非難しているという。
