ノースダコタ州のスタンディングロック保留地に住むアメリカ先住民のスー族はこの7カ月、彼らの生き様をかけて戦ってきた。彼らは、アメリカ・ノースダコタ州とイリノイ州を結ぶ石油パイプライン「ダコタ・アクセス・パイプライン」の建設に抗議し続けている。スタンディングロック・スー族が率いるデモ隊は、パイプラインの建設によって水源が汚染され、彼らの聖地が破壊されると主張を続けていた。

ニューヨークの写真家クリス・キャラウェイは、デモ参加者たちの本質に迫ったストーリーをポートレートや音声インタビューとして記録した。その姿や音声は、スー族にとってかけがえのない土地を守るため、世界中から人々を惹きつけたムーブメントの実態をとらえている。

「私の目的は、デモを身近なものにするために、キャンプの魂、声、そして人々の姿をみなさんに届けることだ」と、キャロウェイはハフィントンポストUS版に語った。
