中国河南省開封にある農村で、中華人民共和国建国の父とされる毛沢東の巨大な像の建設が進んでいる。複数の企業家が300万元（約5500万円）を拠出したもので、高さは36.6メートル、表面は金色に塗装されている。地元メディアの報道として、産経ニュースなどが1月5日に伝えた。
鉄筋コンクリート製で、ひざの上で両手を組みながら座っている姿。昨年３月に着工し、１２月におおむね完成した。足場が組まれたままの状態だが、大勢の人がやって来て写真に収めているという。

毛沢東は1893年、湖南省出身。1921年中国共産党創立に参加し、農民運動を指導。国民党政府との内戦に勝ち、49年中華人民共和国を建国。国家主席・党主席を歴任し、66年からは文化大革命を提起した。1976年9月に死去した。
