イギリス・マンチェスターのコンサート会場で起きた自爆テロ事件に関連して、地元の警察当局は5月23日、サウス・マンチェスターで23歳の男を逮捕したと発表した。
当局はこの前の声明で、「実行犯は男1人で、爆破装置を持ち込んでいた。爆発で既に死亡した」と述べ、共犯者の有無も含めて調べていると発表していた。
この事件での死者は22人、けが人は59人になっている。
また、BBCによると、この事件によって亡くなった犠牲者の中には、8歳の女の子のサフィー・ローズ・ローソスさんも含まれていた。彼女が通っていたタールトン小学校の教諭は「サフィーの死は私たちにとって非常に衝撃的な出来事だった。彼女の家族や友達に哀悼の意をささげたい」とコメントしている。
爆発事件は、マンチェスター中心部にある屋内競技場「マンチェスター・アリーナ」で5月22日夜、起きた。この競技場では当時、アメリカの人気歌手アリアナ・グランデさんのコンサートが開かれており、コンサートが終わった直後、通路で爆発が起きたという。
【UPDATE】NBCは、関連として逮捕された23歳の男は、自爆テロ実行犯とされすでに死亡したサルマン・アベディ容疑者（22）の兄、イスマイル・アベディ容疑者だったと報じている。
