アレッポの住人たちはタイヤを燃やして独自の飛行禁止区域を作っている。

内戦が続くシリアで、北部の都市アレッポでは政府軍が反体制派の支配地域を包囲し、武装勢力に投降を呼びかけ、住民を脱出させるための回廊を建設した。取り残された20〜30万人のアレッポ住民は食料や水などの物資供給が絶たれている。アサド大統領は、3カ月以内に反体制派が投稿すれば罪に問わないという大統領令を発表したが、応じなければ総攻撃に出るとみられる。

イギリスに拠点を置くNGO「シリア人権監視団」は8月2日、反体制派が包囲を突破するための砲撃で子どもや女性を含む少なくとも30人が死亡したと発表した。また、政府軍が化学兵器を使った攻撃を行い、民間人5人が死亡したという情報もある。

シリア政府軍に包囲されたアレッポに住む子供たちが、タイヤに火をつけて、爆弾を落とす戦闘機に対して「飛行禁止区域」を作っている。

ウォール・ストリート・ジャーナルによると、「小さなヒーローたち」は、シリア政府とロシアの同盟軍による病院、市場、支援物資倉庫への爆撃によって壊滅した町で、タイヤを燃やす民間人の中の一部だという。

子供たちはこの煙を作り出すことで、反体制派が町の半分を支配し、人道的な危機に直面する地域に爆弾を落とす戦闘機を混乱させることができればと願っている。

インターネット上でシェアされた画像には、燃える山積みのタイヤのそばでポーズを取る子供たちが写っている。コメントしている人たちは彼らを「新しい世代のシリア人活動家」と呼んだ。

子供たちは、近所に爆弾が落ちるような絶望的な状況に直面している30万人の中の一部だ。食料供給はあと数週間しかもたないという。2015年の初めには、街に残っている医師がわずか25人しかいなかった。唯一いた小児科医は5月に殺害された。

赤を背景にタイヤが燃えているイラストは、彼らの苦境のシンボルとしてインターネットで拡散された。またシャボン玉を吹く場面を真似た、戦闘機へ煙を吹く子供の白黒のイラストも同じように拡散された。

シリアの政治活動家でジャーナリストのラミ・ジャラ氏は、タイヤを燃やしたことは効果があったと語った。「包囲を破るために、煙で戦闘機を混乱させ、地上攻撃のけん制を引き起こしています」とBBCに語った。

「みんなやっていますが、子供たちが抵抗するためにできることは、本当にこれだけなんです」

自由シリア軍などの反政府組織は、Twitterに #AngerForAleppo (アレッポへの怒り)や #AleppoUnderSiege (包囲されたアレッポ)といったハッシュタグをつけて拡散し、彼らの活動を支持した。

「この子たちはヒーローです」と、あるTwitterユーザーが書いた。別のユーザーは彼らを「任務のために出動する防空隊」と呼んだ。

あるシリア人は環境団体に謝罪する動画を公開し、タイヤを燃やして煙で汚染していることについて詫びた。「本当にごめんなさい。私たちを許してください。でもみなさんはシリア人から目を背けてきました。あなたたちは飛行禁止区域を作らないことで、私たちを失望させてきました。それでやむを得ずこうしているんです」

彼はさらに「ロシアとアサド政権によるアレッポでの犯罪を止めるために、私たちはタイヤを燃やしています。これで戦闘機による攻撃を防いでいます」
