台湾郊外の新北市にある遊園地「八仙遊園」（ウォーターパーク）で6月27日夜、イベント中に爆発事故があった。時事ドットコムによると、負傷者は28日現在で計516人。うち20代と30代の日本人女性が含まれている。2人は命に別条はないという。
NHKによると、プールで粉末状のとうもろこしなどを体に吹き付けるイベントが開かれており、何らかの理由で引火したとみられる。
このレジャー施設は、プールや温泉などがあり、当時、さまざまな色のついた粉のようなものを体に吹きつけて楽しむイベントが開かれていて、水着姿の若者ら大勢の人たちが集まっていたということです。
消防当局によりますと、イベントでは、粉末状にしたとうもろこしなどに色をつけて使っていたとみられ、地元のメディアは、これに何らかの理由で引火した可能性を指摘しています。

朝日新聞デジタルによると、空中に拡散したパウダーに引火して炎が燃え広がった。参加者の多くは水着など薄着だったことも、被害が拡大した一因とみられるという。新北市の市長は、市内でカラーパウダーを使ったイベントの開催を禁止した。
