バジワ氏は、8時間に及ぶタリバーン兵士とパキスタン軍部隊との間の銃撃戦の末、篭城戦は終わり、7人のテロリスト全員が射殺されたと発表した。

2012年に、女性の教育を受ける権利をブログなどで発信しタリバーンに銃撃され、14年にノーベル平和賞を受賞したマララ・ユスフザイさんは次のような声明を発表した。

「本日ペシャワールで発生した、この非常識で血も涙もないテロ行為を目の当たりにし、悲しみに打ちひしがれています。学校に通う罪のない子供たちが、このような恐怖にさらされることがあってはなりません。私はこのような残忍で卑怯な行為を強く非難します。そしてパキスタン政府、軍と一致団結して立ち向かいます。パキスタン政府と軍が、これまでこの恐ろしい事件への対応に尽力していることを称賛します。私は、世界中の人々と共に子供たち、私の兄弟姉妹を追悼します。私たちは決して負けません」

パキスタンのナワーズ・シャリフ首相は襲撃のニュースを受けて、現地ペシャワールへと向かった。「私はペシャワールへ向かい、作戦を自分で指揮しようと決めた。彼らは私自身の子供であり、今回の犠牲は私自身の喪失であるからだ」。

シャリーフ氏は今回の襲撃事件を受けて、パキスタンの国全体で3日間の喪に服すと宣言した。
