第28回東京国際映画祭が10月22日、東京・六本木ヒルズで開幕した。31日まで六本木や新宿を中心にコンペ出品作品や特別招待作品などが上映され、最終日にグランプリや審査員特別賞などが発表される。
初日のレッドカーペットには、アメリカの女優ヒラリー・スワンクやイギリスの女優ヘレン・ミレン、竹内結子や中谷美紀、北川景子、蒼井そら、木村文乃らが登場。華やかにオープニングを飾った。
