ツール・ド・フランス第3ステージで、大勢の選手が巻き込まれる大クラッシュが発生した。大クラッシュの影響で、レースは一時中断。複数の選手が、リタイアする中、ゴール前の難所、平均勾配26%「ユイの壁(Mur de Huy) 」を最初に登りきったホアキン・ロドリゲスが、第3ステージを制した。

大クラッシュした20名の選手の中には、前日マイヨ・ジョーヌ（総合1位）を獲得したファビアン・カンチェラーラ選手も含まれていた。カンチェラーラ選手は、自転車と一緒に宙返りし、草の上に叩きつけられた。
