ドナルド・トランプ大統領は2月15日、イスラエルのベンヤミン・ネタニヤフ首相との共同記者会見で、パレスチナとイスラエルの紛争について「2国家間の解決にはもうこだわらない」と語った。

トランプ大統領は、イスラエルとパレスチナの紛争解決にパレスチナ国家の創設を含む解決策を模索するか、という問いに対し「私は2国家共存も、1国家も見据えている」と答えた。 「私は双方の当事者が望む解決策で良い。両当事者が望む解決策で私は満足だ」

「私はどちらでも構わない。しばらくは2国家が良いと思っていたが、どちらか容易な方になるだろう」と、トランプ大統領は語った。「正直、ビビ(ネタニヤフ首相)とパレスチナ人、つまりイスラエルとパレスチナの人々が満足するなら、彼らが一番望む策で私は満足だ」

トランプ氏の発言は、アメリカの中東政策が大きく変化したことを示している可能性がある。この20年間、歴代のアメリカ大統領は民主党か共和党かにかかわらず、イスラエル・パレスチナ紛争を、2国家共存を前提として解決しようとしてきた。

しかし、大統領の発言は全くの驚きというわけではなかった。ホワイトハウス高官は14日、ロイター通信に「政府はパレスチナ紛争の解決手段として、別のパレスチナ国家を創設するかどうかはイスラエルとパレスチナに委ねる」と語っていた。

トランプ氏は、イスラエルのアメリカ大使館をテルアビブからエルサレムに移転する公約も後退させたかのように見える。

「実現すれば良いと思う」と、トランプ氏は大使館移転について言及した。「我々は目を凝らして、注意深く状況を見守っている」
