朝の地下鉄ストライキ、殺気立つ通勤客を和ませたピアノマン(動画)

「1曲弾き終えるたびに手をたたきました」

ラッシュや事故で駅に人がごった返すと、どうしてもイライラしてくるものだ。ましてや、その原因がストライキだったら、それが労働者の権利とはいえ、怒りをどこに持っていっていいかわからなくこともあるだろう。

イギリス・ロンドンで1月にあった地下鉄職員の大規模な24時間ストライキでも、多くの混乱と怒りが渦巻いた。1月9日には市内中心部にある駅がほとんど閉鎖され、数百万人の足に影響が出た。

地下鉄職員は、すべての切符売り場を閉鎖する案に抗議し、1月8日の午後6時から24時間のストライキを始めた。労働組合は、切符売り場の閉鎖によって、800以上の職が失われたと主張する。

鉄道・海運・輸送労働組合(RMT)と運輸職員労働組合(TSSA)の組員は、ロンドン市交通局からの提案を拒否し、ストライキを中止するよう呼びかけたサディク・カーン市長の要請をはねつけた。

ロンドン南西部にあるクラパム・ジャンクション駅も閉鎖し、多くの人でごった返す中、ある男性が、ストライキでこうむった悲惨な通勤を和らげようと買って出た。

そして彼のちょっとした演奏が、良い結果を生んだ。

ひどい有様だ

名もないミュージシャンが、17番プラットフォーム近くにあるチケット売り場内に置かれたピアノの前に座った。通勤客の入場が禁止され、駅の中にいた通勤客が締め出された、午前9時20分頃のことだ。

鉄道会社「サウスウェスト・トレインズ」の広報担当者は、この朝の混乱についてこう語った。「何年にもわたって、クラパムジャンクション駅を見てきましたが、最悪の混雑でした。どんなに準備しても軽減はできません」
