冨永智子
上橋菜穂子さん、アンデルセン賞 児童文学のノーベル賞
「獣の奏者」などのファンタジーで知られる作家で、文化人類学者の上橋菜穂子（うえはしなほこ）さん（５１）が２４日、国際アンデルセン賞の作家賞に選ばれた。日本国際児童図書評議会（ＪＢＢＹ）に同日、連絡が入った。「児童文学のノーベル賞」と言われるアンデルセン賞。その作家賞を日本人が受けたのは、１９９４年のまど・みちおさん以来、２人目となる。
アンデルセン賞は国際児童図書評議会（ＩＢＢＹ、本部・スイス）の主催。児童文学に貢献してきた作家の功績に対し、２年ごとに贈られる。日本人では画家賞を赤羽末吉さんと安野光雅さんが受賞している。
上橋さんの「獣の奏者」や「精霊の守り人」シリーズは、世界各地で翻訳。ＪＢＢＹによると、民族や国家の衝突など普遍性のあるテーマや、精緻（せいち）な描写が国際的にも高く評価されているという。
受賞の連絡を受けた上橋さんは「夢を見ているよう。これまでずっと、生まれ落ちた世界で一生懸命に生きる人々の姿を描こうとしてきた。子どもから大人まで読んでもらいたいと思ってきたので、私の物語が海外でも読者の胸に響いたとしたらとてもうれしい」と話した。（畑山敦子）
