第15回世界陸上北京大会男子200m決勝に出場したウサイン・ボルトが、19秒55の今季世界最高タイムで優勝したが、その直後に悲劇が起こった。
100メートルに続き、ボルトはジャスティン・ガトリンに勝って金メダルを手にしたが、ジャマイカ国旗をまとってウィニング・ランをしていたら、セグウェイに乗っていたカメラマンが倒れて巻き込まれて左すねに擦り傷を負った。
ボルトはその出来事について、「奴は俺を殺そうとしたんだ。何が起こったのかわからなかったよ」と言いながら笑い飛ばした。

決勝の後、BBCのインタビューでボルトは、「最高だ。200メートルで4度勝ったのは、俺にとって大きな意味がある。世界選手権で10回も金メダリストになれてうれしい。特にみんな私が負けると言っていたからなおさらだね」と語った。
「俺には絶対の自信があった。コーチも自信があったみたいだけど、同じくらい俺も自信があったんだ。200メートルじゃ勝てないなんて疑ったことは一度もない。俺が1番なんだ。イギリスの人たちは俺のことをとても愛してくれているから、私は速く走り続けられる。マイケル・ジョンソン（200メートルの前世界記録保持者）、俺を疑うのはやめてくれ」
