イタリア南部ナポリの検察当局とゴッホ美術館は9月30日、オランダ・アムステルダムのゴッホ美術館から2002年12月に盗まれたゴッホの油絵2作品が、マフィア組織が所有するナポリ近郊の家から発見されたと発表した。NHKなどが報じた。

発見されたのは「スヘフェーニンゲンの海の眺め」(1882年)と「ヌエネンの教会から出る人々」(1884~85年)。いずれも1880年代前半に描かれた作品で、ゴッホ美術館の学芸員が本物の作品であることを確認した。額縁が外されており、一部に損傷がみられるものの、保存状態は比較的よいという。美術館では14年ぶりに作品が無事に見つかり胸をなで下ろしているという。

作品は、マフィアによる麻薬取り引きの捜査の延長で、麻薬組織リーダーの自宅を家宅捜索した際に見つかった。容疑者は10年前にも同じ住宅で逮捕されている。同容疑者はその後、所有する建設会社があるドバイに渡航したとみられているが、2016年になって新たな逮捕状が出されたという。

捜査は継続中のため、作品がいつごろ美術館に返還されるか、などのメドは立っていない。盗んだ犯人は2003年に逮捕されている。
