ワシントン海軍工廠銃乱射事件で容疑者含む13人の死亡を確認 単独犯行の見方強まる

9月16日朝(日本時間同日夜)、ワシントン海軍工廠で発生した銃乱射事件で銃撃犯一人が射殺されたが、ワシントンD.C.首都警察のキャシー・ラニエル署長は同日夜、銃撃に関与したのは、死亡した容疑者の単独犯行であるとの見解を発表した。

容疑者を含む13人が死亡した事態に、同日の夕方近く、ワシントンのビンセント・グレー市長は記者会見で声明を発表、現時点では動機は不明とした。

グレー市長は会見で、「これ以上深刻なことはない」と述べた。

死亡した銃撃犯はアーロン・アレクシス(34)容疑者と特定。NBCによると、アレクシス容疑者はテキサス州フォートワース出身、民間契約の形でワシントン海軍工廠で働き始めたばかりだという。

およそ午後2時45分頃、首都警察はツイッターで声明を発表、犯行に関与したとみられていた残りの二人のうち、カーキ色の衣服の白人男性は特定され、「容疑者ではない」ことが判明した。

当局によると、午前8時20分頃、容疑者は海軍艦船開発本部司令部内で発砲を開始、建物内ではおよそ3000人が勤務していた。

CNNによると、海軍工廠の職員に対して「所定の場所に非難するように」との指令が出された。ワシントンD.Cの現場周辺では、少なくとも6つの学校が警戒のために封鎖された。

目撃者のティム・ジーラス海軍中佐は、正面右側の至近距離で容疑者が発砲している姿を見たと話している

ジーラス氏は、「私たちは建物外の路地に立っていた。(犠牲者のひとりが)『建物内に銃を乱射している人間がいる』と言った。彼と話している間に2発の銃声が聞こえて、彼は倒れた」と語った。

ジーラス氏はその場所から避難し、銃撃犯の姿は見えなくなったという。

Fox Newsによると、地元と連邦政府関係機関から多くの警察、特別機動隊SWATが現場に配備された。オバマ大統領は、銃撃は「複数回に及んだ」との声明を出した

16日夜、警察は銃撃による死亡者7名の身元を特定した。夜10時45分の記者会見でグレー市長は声明を発表し、死亡した犠牲者の年齢は46歳から73歳までで、その全員が一般市民と民間業者で、軍関係者は含まれていないという。
