サムスンは、ウェアラブルデバイス向けの次世代バッテリー「Band」「Stripe」を公開しました。薄く曲がるフレキシブルなバッテリー。スマートウォッチのリストバンドに搭載すれば駆動時間を最大で50%以上延長できるとしています。

サムスンが公開したのは、ウェアラブルデバイスに適用する2種類の次世代バッテリー試作品です。

1つ目の「Band」は、スマートウォッチ向けに開発されたバッテリー。ヒトの腕の曲率の範囲で5万回以上の曲げ試験に耐えるとのこと。スマートウォッチのリストバンドに搭載すれば、ウォッチ単体に比べてバッテリー駆動時間を最大50%以上延長できるとしています。

2つ目の「Stripe」は、厚さ0.3mmという超薄型バッテリーです。繊維のように柔軟で、ネックレスやヘアバンド、インタラクティブなTシャツなどに適用可能。また、サムスンによれば革新的な技術により、従来の同じようなバッテリーに比べて高いエネルギー密度を実現しています。

バッテリー持ちの悪さが普及のネックになっているといっても過言ではないウェアラブルデバイス。このようなバッテリーが実用化されれば、ウェアラブルデバイスの市場拡大に大きな役割を果たすことが期待されます。なお、現時点ではこのバッテリーはプロトタイプ、サムスンは量産化の時期を明かしていません。
