6月24日にEU離脱の賛否を問う国民投票が集計され、イギリスのEU離脱が正式に決まった。

離脱決定から数時間後、イギリスに住む人々は疑問を抱いた。そもそもEUとは何なのか?

イギリスの人々は今回の離脱によって、この極めて根本的な疑問に対する答えをGoogleで探した。世界で一番利用されている検索サイトで、よく検索されているワードがわかる。

最も検索数が多かったのは、専門家の多くが答えに戸惑っている「EU離脱の意味は?」だった。しかし、EUを捨てて世界に衝撃を与える前に、そうした疑問を抱く有権者もいたかもしれない。

#EURefResults (EU離脱決定)が正式に発表されてから、EUに関しイギリスで2番目に検索件数が多いのが「EUって何?」だ。

3位以下は「EUに参加しているのはどこの国?」「EUを離脱したら何が起こる?」「EUには何カ国参加しているの?」。

1つはっきりしているのは、それぞれに対する答えは、たった24時間でまったく別のものになりつつあるということだ。
