中国の習近平・国家主席の名前を読み間違ったとして、インドの政府系テレビ局のアナウンサーが解雇された。このアナウンサーは習氏の苗字を「イレブン」と読んでしまったという。9月20日、朝日新聞デジタルなどが報じた。

習氏の名はアルファベットで「Ｘｉ（シー）Ｊｉｎｐｉｎｇ（チンピン）」と表記される。アナウンサーは１７日夜のニュース番組で習氏の名を読む際、姓（Ｘｉ）をローマ数字（Ｘ＝１０、ｉ＝１）と取り違え、「イレブン（１１）・チンピン氏」と発音してしまったという。

ロイターによると、このテレビ局ではアナウンサーが不足しており、読み間違えたアナウンサーは臨時で雇われていたという。「許し難い過ち」だと関係者は話した。

なお、習氏の名前は、これまでにも間違われたことがある。フランスのテレビ番組「ル・プティ・ジャーナル」は3月、習氏の名前が「CHILIPING（チリピン）」や「CHI DJING PIN（シー・ジン・ピン）」など間違えられていることを紹介した。番組によると、フランスのオランド大統領ですら「Sisin Ping（シシンピン）」と間違えている。(下記の動画の14分34秒あたりから）
