11月22日に死去した韓国の金泳三（キム・ヨンサム）・元大統領の弔問所があるソウル市内の病院に、25日、全斗煥（チョン・ドゥファン）・元大統領（84）が訪れた。
金氏の次男・賢哲氏と会話を交わすなどして、10分ほどの短い弔問を終えた全氏は、「金泳三氏との歴史的和解か」との報道陣の問いかけに、何も答えず立ち去った。

金泳三氏と全斗煥氏の因縁は、1980年にさかのぼる。
1979年10月26日に朴正熙大統領が暗殺されたあと、全斗煥氏は79年12月12日の「粛軍クーデター」で実権を掌握した。翌1980年5月17日、民主化運動の盛り上がりに対し、全氏を中心とする「新軍部」は、国会解散や非常戒厳令の全国発令を決めた。金泳三氏はソウルの自宅で軟禁され、軍部から政界引退を強要された。

1983年、23日間のハンガーストライキで全斗煥大統領に抗議した金泳三氏は、翌年に金大中氏とともに「民主化推進協議会」を結成した。1985年には新民党を創設して、全斗煥大統領の退陣を訴えた。
1996年8月26日、クーデター容疑で起訴され、手を握り合って法廷に立つ全斗煥、盧泰愚の両元大統領
1993年に金泳三氏が大統領に当選後、軍部に強い影響力を持っていた親睦組織「ハナ会」を解散させて政治に対する軍の影響力を弱め、1995年には、全斗煥氏と盧泰愚・元大統領を、粛軍クーデター時の反乱主導や収賄などの容疑で逮捕した。
2010年8月、当時の李明博大統領が歴代大統領を青瓦台（大統領府）に招いたとき、全斗煥氏も招待されていたことを知った金泳三氏は「全斗煥をなぜ呼ぶんだ。大統領でもないのに」と罵倒した。全斗煥氏が酒を飲もうとすると「青瓦台に酒を飲みに来たのか」とののしり、全氏は途中で帰宅したという。
