11月のNHK杯ではSP、フリーともに世界最高得点をマークし、前人未到となる300点を超えた羽生。ファイナルでも、冒頭の4回転サルコーを決めると、続く4回転トーループ＋3回転トーループのコンビネーションも成功。最後のトリプルアクセルを鮮やかに決めて、ノーミスの演技で自身の持つ記録を4.62更新した。
初出場の宇野昌麿は86.47で4位、村上大輔は83.47で5位スタートとなった。
