旅する写真家ジョン・タークレイは、世界中をまわって寝室の写真を撮り集めている。

タークレイは、80〜90年代に生まれた若者がどんな生活を送っているのかをカメラに収めるために、この「マイ・ルーム・プロジェクト」を始めた。
彼はまず、パリに住む友人たちの寝室を撮影した。その後SNSやNPOを通して被写体を探し、撮った写真は現在までに1200枚以上になる。

「寝室というのは、一番ふさわしい呼び方ではないかもしれない」とタークレイは話す。寝るだけではなく他の用途で使われることもあるからだ。住んでいる人と一緒で、それぞれの場所にはそれぞれの性格がある。
「スピリチュアルなインドの部屋、ロシアの温かいもてなし、それに日本のクレイジーさがとても印象に残っています。全ての写真にはストーリーがあるんです」

写真には、住んでいる人の名前と年齢、そして仕事が添えられている。また、タークレイが訪れた部屋の順番に、ルームナンバーがついている。
写真はまもなく写真集として出版される予定だが、その前に一部の寝室をのぞいてみよう。そこは、政治や教育、そして恋を語る場所。寝室はあなたに多くを語りかける。
