廃墟となった場所を旅することがブームになりつつある。人けのない不気味な場所を探検するスリルを愛する人は必ずいるものだ。しかし時には、裏庭のすぐ近くで、時間が止まっているかのような薄気味悪い廃屋を発見することもある。であれば、旅行する必要はない。

しかし時には、裏庭のすぐ近くで、時間が止まっているかのような薄気味悪い廃屋を発見することもある。であれば、旅行する必要はない。

ドリュー・パールマッタ―という写真家がいる。彼は廃墟となった建物を探し、写真や映像で記録している。彼の写真は美しく、印象的だ。彼の写真を見ていたら、私たちが廃墟探検をするために古いオリンピックスタジアムはるか遠い場所まで危険を冒して行く必要がない。

パールマッターはどんな方法で廃墟を見つけるかというと、どこかで廃墟のお宝と偶然出会わないかと願いながら、彼の家があるフロリダ州を車で駆け巡る、それだけだ。

彼が写真に収めた場所のいくつかは、廃墟に興味のある冒険心のある人なら行くことが可能だ。その多くが非法人地域(訳注・アメリカの地方自治体に属していない地域)で、立入禁止ではない区域だからだ。廃墟が手つかずのままでいることでその美しさが保たれ、楽しめるようになっている。
