9月28日に行われたアジア大会・男子サッカー準々決勝、日本・韓国戦で、日本の初代総理大臣、伊藤博文を暗殺した安重根（アン・ジュングン）の肖像を描いた幕が、韓国の応援席で掲げられていたことがわかった。朝日新聞デジタルなど複数のメディアで報道されている。

掲げられた際の写真を見ると、安重根の肖像の脇には、「国のために献身するのが代表の本分」という意味の漢字で綴られている。

国際サッカー連盟（FIFA）では、試合会場での政治的な活動を禁じており、違反する可能性がある。サッカーの日韓戦をめぐっては2013年7月の東アジアカップでも巨大な安重根の幕が掲げられ、問題となっていた。

安重根は1909年、当時の満州・ハルビンで初代韓国統監の伊藤博文を射殺。逮捕され翌1910年に死刑となった。韓国では、植民地支配時代における抗日運動の象徴的な存在となっている。
