US President Barack Obama Tuesday basked in the lavish royal pageantry of a state visit to Britain, given an extra dash of glamour by a brief encounter with Prince William and his bride Catherine. But the 24-hour demands that follow a US president everywhere shadowed the London pomp, as Obama took time out to say he was \'heartbroken\' at the toll of vicious tornados which ripped across the US midwest, killing 116 people. Poor Kate Middleton. She\'s not just marrying a future king. She\'s marrying all of us. Once upon a time, British subjects gazed upon their sovereigns from afar. Not any more. Members of the royal family are now Hollywood-style mega-celebrities _ their cellulite, receding hairlines and boozy nights out subject to the same relentless scrutiny as other A-listers. The monarchy has gained in star power, and perhaps lost in dignity, since William\'s mother, Princess Diana, burst into the royal family in a blonde blaze of charisma and changed it forever. FAMILY TREE: King George VI was King of the United Kingdom from 1936 to 1952. \nMEANING:Originally of Greek origin, the meaning of George is \"farmer\". Also there is the story of Saint George, a knight who became the patron saint of England and achieved legendary status after his struggle with a fire-breathing dragon.\nWHY WE LIKE IT: Besides being a dragon slayer, the name George goes back to the Royal family\'s history books since 1660. George VI was also the last male figure in power — this title currently belongs to Queen Elizabeth II. (credit:Getty Images )
