ダラス警察はSWAT(特別機動隊)が容疑者2人を拘束し、付近にあった「不審物」を確保した。

デモの様子を捉えた動画の中では、何人もの警官が駐車場のガレージなど、ダラスのダウンタウンにある施設に集結している。別の画面では、背景でサイレンが鳴り響く中、銃声が響いているのがわかる。

デモの主催者レヴ・ジェフ・フッドさんは「ダラス・モーニング・ニュース」に、「6発から8発の銃声のような音を聞く前」に彼が警官1人と一緒に抗議集団の先頭に立っていたことをに話した。

「みんな混乱しているようでした」と、フッドさんは話した。「警官は銃撃があった方向へ走り、私は銃撃から逃げ出して人々を道から離れさせようとしました。自分が撃たれていないか確認するため、私は自分の体を掴みました」

7日未明に数百人の人たちが国中からダラスに集まり、警官がルイジアナ州バトンルージュにあるコンビニエンスストアの外でアルトン・スターリングさんが射殺された事件と、ミネソタ州セントポールで車両停止中にフィランド・カスティールさんが射殺された事件に抗議した。

抗議者たちはサインを掲げて、「正義なくして平和はない」や「手を上げたら撃つな」など、黒人の命の大切さを訴える運動でよく聞かれる言葉を繰り返した。
