韓国の聯合ニュースは、このB52について「核ミサイルで武装」していると報じている。
Ｂ５２は同日午前にグアムのアンダーセン空軍基地を出発し、正午ごろソウル近郊・平沢の在韓米軍烏山空軍基地上空に到達。烏山基地上空で韓国空軍の戦闘機Ｆ１５Ｋと在韓米軍のＦ１６の護衛を受け、基地上空を通過した。

北朝鮮が「水爆実験に成功した」と表明してから、韓国軍が8日に軍事境界線付近で北朝鮮の体制を非難する拡声機の宣伝放送を再開するなど、アメリカと韓国は北朝鮮への対抗策を強めており、今回の措置も北朝鮮を牽制する狙いがある。
一方、北朝鮮の朝鮮中央通信は10日、金正恩第1書記が北朝鮮の軍部にあたる人民武力部を「祝賀訪問」し、核実験について「米帝と帝国主義者の核戦争の危険から朝鮮半島の平和と地域の安全を頼もしく保証するための自衛的措置」「主権国家の合法的権利であり、誰もけなすことのできない正々堂々たるものである」と演説したことを伝えた。訪問の日付は明記されていない。
